Classical Training/Coaching

Playing piano is an art that requires attention to detail, focus, concentration and most importantly, listening.  Performing at the piano not easy, but the personal rewards are endless. Achieving and perfecting this art will last a lifetime and will develop a love of music for the student. Key components such as technique, aural training, sight reading and repertoire are required for each student.

Jazz Piano

While his time in training as a classical pianist, Mr. Wright realized the importance of understanding all musical genres, particularly jazz. The world of jazz sometimes piques a student's interest more so than the classical literature. Key components to jazz lessons include music theory/jazz music theory, learning of jazz chords, improvisation, reading from lead sheets (fake books), as well as, learning jazz solo works.

Theory in Piano Lessons

Learning music theory enables a student to understand the "bigger picture" of music. All students are given written music theory homework each week that is appropriate to their age level. Mr. Wright encourages each student, but does not require them to take the Texas Music Teachers Association student affiliate theory test.

Tutoring is recommended for students who plan to persue music as a career. Mr. Wright does accept music theory students from other piano studios, upon agreement with the student's piano teacher. Depending on the goals of the student, Mr. Wright may also choose to focus on both music theory and aural training.
